Pre-Registration

The staff would like you to feel relaxed and confident about your upcoming surgery or procedure.  Below is a brief description of what you can expect during your stay with us.  Please take a few minutes to review this information and feel free to call us with any questions.

Prior to your procedure, a business office representative will contact you to verify the information we have received from your physicians scheduling staff and  to confirm any insurance coverage if applicable and any fees that you may be responsible for on the day before service.  If your procedure requires anesthesia, an anesthesiologist will contact you the day or evening before your surgery.  You will be asked questions regarding any prior surgeries and your past medical history.

  • It is important to follow your anesthesiologists’ instructions regarding eating and drinking fluids prior to your surgery.  Generally you should not have anything to eat after midnight. Clear liquids are allowed up to 3 hours prior to your surgery, clear liquids include plain coffee, tea, apple juice, jello, broth, no milk products.
  • Please leave all valuables (for example jewelry, body piercings…) at home.
  • Arrive one hour prior to your scheduled surgery time.
  • Please bring your photo ID and insurance cards (if we are billing insurance).
  • Please have your fees due paid by the day before surgery.
  • Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes that are easy to put on and take off.
  • You must make arrangements to have someone take you home from the surgery center, as well as a responsible adult to stay with you the first 24 hours after surgery.
  • Please complete the Pre-admission Questionnaire and Current Medication Sheet provided in the surgery packet provided to you by your surgeon or you can download below.
  • If you are having laser treatment to your face: DO NOT use hair products on your hair other than shampoo.

When you arrive at the center our receptionist will greet you and complete your registration.   A Pre-OP nurse will take you into the Pre-OP area where a private changing room will be provided.  In the Pre-Op area, your nurse will review your medical history, medications you may be taking and any allergies to medications you may have.  Your vital signs will be taken and any questions you have will be answered at this time.  For most patients an IV will be started and medications will be administered intravenously.

Before your surgery/procedure your anesthesiologist and operating room nurse will introduce themselves to you.  They will review the same important questions and information previously asked.  We understand that the repeated questions may become tiring, but it is essential that we are completely accurate with all medical information to ensure you have a good experience at our center.

The OR nurse will take you to the operating room. It is often cooler in the OR and warm blankets will be provided for your comfort.  Once you have moved to the OR table, the anesthesiologist will place the monitoring equipment on you  and you will receive your anesthetic.

After your procedure, you will be taken to the recovery area and monitored closely.  It is not uncommon to feel shaky, cold, light-headed or nauseated when waking up.  Please let your nurse know if you are uncomfortable as medication can be provided.

When you are ready to go home, you and your caregiver will be given discharge instructions. It is common to feel tired the rest of the day.  Within a few days, you will receive a follow-up call to see how you are doing.

We hope to make your visit as comfortable as possible.  Tours of the facility are available at any time and highly recommended for children.  Please give us a call if you have any questions or concerns.

Federal regulations require that we inform you of three important issues prior to your date of surgery both written and verbally:

1) Your rights as a patient at a healthcare facility. You should have received in your surgery packet.  If not, you must contact us.

2) McKenzie Surgery Center’s policy on Advanced Directives. As your procedure here is elective, the surgery Center does not honor advanced directives.  In the event of an emergency that necessitates your transfer to a hospital we would either forward the copy you bring to the center or provide the information you provided to us to your next care giver.

 3) McKenzie Surgery Center is a Surgical Care Affiliates surgery center with 7 limited physician partners (Dr.s Austin, Ditto, Edwards, Ford, Jewell, Schink and Movassaghi).

Please call the Surgery Center to pre-register and verbally notify you of the above Federal Regulations at 344-2600 or you procedure must be cancelled.  Questions and concerns can be addressed during your pre-registration call.
